About

Rural China Walks documents China’s countryside on foot — ancient villages, old stone trails, water towns and the semi-abandoned settlements that are quietly disappearing.

Every route is filmed in a single continuous take, from a first-person perspective, with natural sound only: no narration, no background music. The goal is to show these places as they actually are — the sounds of the lanes, the texture of old walls, the way a village is put together.

This site is the written companion to the Rural China Walks YouTube channel. Each article covers one village or town: what it is, how to get there, what to see on foot, and whether it is worth your time. Locations across Anhui and Zhejiang — from the Huizhou villages of She County to the water towns of northern Zhejiang — are grouped by region in the menu above.

New walks are added regularly. Start with the Wancun Village article, or browse the Wannan Huizhou region.
